Recycling Event

This past weekend I helped to host a City Recycling Drive with my College. I was so impressed with how much we collected. The total volumes ranged from a couple hundred gallons of paint to over 8 - 10 feet high piles of computer towers, parts and accessories, we also collected metal scraps and paper goods. All this "stuff" will never meet the landfills. :]

Electronics stacks

Uneasy about agreeing to enter the bin that dumps into the shredder. #HorrorMovie

Right now I am working on a usable/practical recycling project that I hope to share with you all soon. Hope you enjoy!!

Collective Haul

Soo... This is stuff that I've accumulated over the past couple of weeks.

Nars was having a sale on two shades of their eyeshadow ($8 from $23) and I've wanted the benetints for a long time, they happened to be in a cute mini set together.

Also I've been searching for a soy candle and stumbled upon this one at Target, smells amazing (no headaches either).

New EOS balm, Strawberry Sorbet, lovely texture and scent, plus supports Breast Cancer Research/Support. <3

Other stuff was the samples from the two Sephora orders + miscellaneous purchases. Also to note, Sephora is currently having their Friends and Family Sale 20% off online purchase.

{Review} Organix Shampoo & Conditioner

Organix: Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

After coloring my hair from blond to brown, I needed to find a shampoo that would improve the health of my hair as well as protect and recover it from excessive damage. I had heard about the Organix brand before and really want to try their products. Currently I've been using these products for over a month now, strait with no other products besides themselves.

I really like the way that this combination make my hair feel and look. I used to dye my hair blond, then decided I wanted to go darker because the blond was washing out my skin tone. I am naturally an ashy blond color, so I felt that going brown, wouldn't be so bad. However, I colored my hair myself and the brown color did not want to adhere to my blond locks, so soon after I had to recolor to brown. Anyways, my hair was damaged even more and I just want to get it healthy again.

I feel that this combination of shampoo and conditioner are really helping to do that.

Shampoo $6:
I use about a quarter sized amount to apply throughout my hair. My hair is also pretty thick, which is why I have to use a bit more. Smells great! The formula is on the thicker side, however, doesn't lather that well - as it is sulfate free. This is also paraben free too! So it is safe on color treated hair and won't strip your hair to badly of natural oils. I only have to use this once to feel like my hair is clean.

Conditioner $6:
Really creamy, smells great also, doesn't cause breakouts (several conditioners I've used increased my breakout rate, because they were too oily). Does not leave the hair oily looking, so it deposits the right amount to moisture where needed. I apply mostly to the ends of my hair and then work the residue on my hands into the scalp to condition.

I've noticed that my hair does indeed look healthier, a significant decrease in my split ends. In using I've seen that my hair drys a whole lot faster, with the blow dryer and without. Recently I've been avoiding the blow dryer and just letting my hair air dry. Not blow drying my hair I think has also increase the return of health and "life" into my hair, as I am not adding unnecessary heat. This really has made my hair appear livelier, bouncier, and I don't have random frizz or fly-aways, it looks smoother and is soft to touch. Something else to note, it helped increase the volume level in my hair. { Yay, fluffy ;] }

Rating: 5/5

Now I would have included this into my fall favorites, but it slipped my mind! I did however include the actual oil from Organix that work quite well to smooth, shine and protect the hair.

What is your favorite shampoo? Although I really love this product, I always love trying new things!!

Gap is closing 21% of North American stores.

AP

Last night I was browsing through the news before going to sleep and found an odd article, that was a bit shocking, I suppose in how it was worded:

Gap is closing 21% of its US stores, but opening several overseas.

I guess as they are trying to expand their market elsewhere, they are cutting back here. Its disheartening though, because there are only two locations even remotely close to where I am.

I don't know if this means a lot a sales, as they will probably shift inventory around.

Also, although I don't frequent this store, I really do love there merchandise and think their clothes are still on of the more solid quality type of basic items than similar chains.

Which stores do you often shop at?

{Review} Nail FAIL

Sally Hansen: Pat on the Black

This has been one of the worst experiences I have had with polish and I'm and very regretful to say that I did not like this product at all.

First of all when I originally bought this I wasn't up to par with application of nail products, so I thought perhaps my inexperience was to blame for the lack of luster, smoothness, and overall appearance. However, I was so in love with the color I overlooked this initially.

Upon revisiting this polish, I realized it wasn't my lack of prior experience, but the formula (unfortunately) that was the problem. A few things to note: The applicator brush is too stiff; drys to quickly not allowing for a full coat; to sheer, leaving patchy spots; even with a base coat this stains my nails. Also, this tends to clump together not spreading across the whole nail, hence the gap at the ends of the nails.

I really do like the color, how in different lighting the this appears plum and then black, but considering everything else - just doesn't cut it.

Rating: 1/5

So sad. :[ Going to look for something else similar.

What is your favorite plumy/deep purple/wine color polish? I would like to try it =]

Thrifty Finds

This week has been so hectic, I'm just glad there are only a few days left until the weekend.

Last weekend I was finally able to go to a local thrift store and actually found some pretty decent things. Now while I only purchased three items, the prices were impassable, spending a whole lot less than $20, because I got an additional percentage off of what the listed prices were. That's always a nice deal!

Sweater $5

Over-sized sweater - $5

100% silk blouse $5 (ann taylor)

I cannot wait until I have some more down time so I am able to go thrift shopping again. I want more sweaters!

Do you have great thrifty stores near you?

Also, I made a twitter account. I'm not sure what to do with it... haha. Shall see!

Enjoying fall

Friends and I (not pictured) on a Campus Nature Walk!
I must say, as this is approaching week we will be fully into fall, that days here often don't feel like fall except for the reminder in the colors of the leaves.

Everywhere I've gone for the past couple of weeks, even on blogs. I've seen a plethora of leopard/cheetah/tiger and just animal prints in general and I love it! I definitely need to add more patterns to my wardrobe, I would love to own some printed flats :D

This is a scarf of mine that I cannot wait to wear when the weather turns colder. (Its more tiger stripy)

Oh and I had a makeup mishap the other day, my eyeliner got all crazy on me due to Fall allergies =_=;; and I don't normally carry makeup with me, making me have to stop to buy new eyeliner. I was looking for the one I usually use, Maybelline Stiletto liner and with my luck it was sold out D:! So I bought an e.l.f. one instead. Surprisingly, it works great.

Are you prepared for the animal rampage this fall?

{p10p & review} 4 down, 6 to go!

Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Ultra-Cleansing Mud Mask.

This is the first mask I've used that has actually seem to show my skin benefits, I have yet to try the Lush masks, but I'm on my way. ;D

So the benefits that I see from this mask is that it keeps my skin clear from breakouts and clears up current ones, dramatically minimizing the redness and bump associated with such occurrences. My skin is also a lot softer after use, at first I thought I had read that this contained Urea, which would make sense as Urea is a amino acid byproduct which breaks down protein contributing to the softness in skin. Urea is actually a common ingredient in skin care products, but it is not in this products.

This product does contain bergomont, which is a type of orange, known to have anti-inflammatory properties. When applied to skin, the mask has a tingling and cooling sensation that might be intense at first, but gradually passes away.

I have purchases a new one since finishing this one, and I'm not sure if the formula has been changed, but its a bit thinner than the first one I use and I noticed that the intense cooling and tingling feeling is a lot milder. Hopefully I just grabbed a bad bottle. :/

Original Product Rating: 5/5

Newspaper Nails

Link

I got this idea for this nail art from Lischen's Blog. The original tutorial for the ingenious technique can be found here.

It's super easy and fun too, because you are ultimately where history on you! I'm thinking about experimenting with cartoon prints, and other various ink sources. Maybe even doing some designs with Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai papers which would be cool to look at/try. Haha!

I'm sure this would look quite romantic on soft pink or purple polishes.

Have you tried any comparable techniques?

September Favorites

Happy Monday, I hope you are all doing fantastic :).

I have always wanted to do a post pertaining to my monthly favorites, but never felt that it would be much use. Let me know if it is something I should do again:

Organic Coconut oil, Organix Moroccan argan oil, EOS lip-balm Lemon Drop, Essie Fair Game, Urban Decay Naked palette, L'Oreal Magic Perfecting

I guess let me break all this down. Haha :D

Skin Care:

L'Oreal Magic Perfecting Base - Helps keep my make up from sliding off during the day and protects my skin from anything I put on it. It worked great this month, especially since it was still hot!

Organic Coconut oil - I saw this on the Dr. Oz show and again from The Wallflower. I use this after I get out of the shower as a quick body moisturizer and also as a facial moisturizer at night. (Don't recommend using it with make up because it is an oil). Plus it is fragrance free!

Nails:

Essie Fair Game - This color is amazing and perfect for fall. Out of my collection this is the one I always want to grab for, but I remind my self to branch out and try all my different ones!

Hair care:

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil - I have been trying to get my hair healthy since coloring it so whenever I need to use heat products I've been using this as to protect it. I also tend to use it even when I don't blow dry my hair. Since using, my hair has been all soft :]

Make up:

Urban Decay Naked Palette - Still one of my favorites, use this almost everyday. Great neutral colors!
EOS Lemon Drop - Lip balm with SPF. What more can I say? Easy to find in my bag, like the shape, taste great.

What did you like in September or what are your current favorites?

First weekend of October!

Sorry for being all M.I.A. recently!

As it was the first weekend of October, nearby towns all over had their kick off celebrations to fall, beer, and bbq. I chose the festival that celebrated all of these >:D!

Yummy funnel cake with sugar and chocolate!

Recently, the sky has been so gorgeous here, no clouds at all, just this rare vibrant piercing blue that seems almost majestic. Love it! It has been so breezy and crisp, truly seems like fall, so time to break out all my scarves and jackets. Yes!

Sunday lunch - Homemade Pho! (excuse the news paper xD)

"Call your Mother"

I think this is my mom's favorite nail polish. I feel guilty every time I see it and I have to call her. It's a great color for spring and fall. So you might be seeing this a lot... I've owned it since last fall and it sill applies amazingly!

I'm going to be posting up my September favorites tomorrow. I hope you guys enjoy it. I've never done one of those post.

What are you looking forward to this October? (I'm looking forward to haunted houses, Halloween parties, orchard pickings, so excited!!)
