{Birchbox} January 2013

Hello there!

January's Birchbox has arrived! I was very pleased with this months box, definitely more so than in previous months.

This months box also includes a "25 ways" to stay beautiful for 2013 or make 2013 better.

The selection of products was quite impressive to me, maybe because I've always wanted to try the coveted Embryolisse cream, as well as the Balm and DDF products.

theBalm® cosmetics Hot Mama Shadow & Blush All-in-One
A very gorgeous neutral color, the packaging is nice as well. It has enough to withstand a father's clumsiness ;)
LA FRESH® Eco Beauty Waterproof Makeup Remover
While this product lived up to it's claim, I was not pleased with it's smell. It has a very strong, natural smell...
Aerie Shimmer 1.7oz Fragrance
Gorgeously scented fragrance, I'm not one to pick out or define notes, so I'm not going to try.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrè (24-Hour Miracle Cream)
So far my face is feeling hydrated and plump. This has a light scent, though not floral, cream like - if that makes any sense.
DDF® Acne Control Treatment
Sadly, as happy as I was to receive a DDF product, I won't be able to use this one as I have an allergy to one of the ingredients..
Are you receiving Birchboxes? Are you pleased with your January box?

Take care!

Gloomy days, gray skies, and sore throats.

I hope your skies have been fairer than mine. Save for Saturday's weather, when I had to work all day and night (as well as wait at a local clinic for a flu vaccine), these past few days have been dreadful. On top of the dreary weather I have become sick! I had to reschedule a hospital interview and visit my doctor where I experienced two unpleasant throat swabs and I'm now taking an antibiotic which is just going to kill my system for the next week or so...

Not all was lost, a enjoyed lunch at Panera Bread and did some reading amongst course work, studying, and cleaning!

Here's to feeling better and not so under the weather!

{NOTD} Glittering Garland

Hello lovelies!

Christmas and all the other holidays might be over, but this color will be able to carry over all year, despite it's name. Why is that? Green, more specifically, emerald is the color of the 2013! This means I'll be able to sport this Christmas color all year round with no big fuss - even if anyone gave one, I'd still wear this beautiful color.

China Glaze - Glittering Garland
Glittering Garland, as seen in this picture is a gorgeous deep green color with flecks of gold glitter. Unfortunately I wasn't able to wear it for the past holiday season as this was a Christmas present to me. Nevertheless, I shall be able to year this well throughout the year.

{Review} e.l.f. minerals - Mineral Eyeshadow

Hello beautiful!

Happy New Year, again! I have yet to write any dates down, but I bet I'm still going to be writing 2012 on all of my papers. I started my last undergraduate semester yesterday, so I am  super excited right now.

One of my Christmas presents surprised me this year. Generally I don't like loose eyeshadows and I haven't had much luck with e.l.f. products in a while either, but this one changed my mind.

I was given these two sets as part of a present from my older sister. She knows of my love for makeup and that I'd liked some previous e.l.f. products in the past.

These are the two sets' swatches. The brown tones on the left are from the mineral Bronze set and the cool grays on the right are from the mineral Smokey set.

These were super hard to open, not the canister themselves, but the plastic cover that was over each sifter to prevent product from causing a major mess upon opening. Other than that minor problem, on all 6 jars, they have a beautiful color pay off. Each swatch above is from one passing with no primer.
I wore each look for over 8 hours, with primer, and did not have any problems with creasing and they all stayed intact. I've had problems with other e.l.f. eyeshadows moving and creasing even with primer in place, so this really excited me. No other pit falls to report, other than a little bit of fallout when initially applying them, as they are in a finely ground powder form.

Yes, a surprising 5/5! I can't wait to wear these again. Throughout the weekday, when I have school I don't typically do a whole face of makeup, so I probably will not use these until the weekend or if I have a special banquet to go to.

Side note: e.l.f. as far as I am aware is supposed vegan and cruelty free, which by all means is positive. However, they could go a step further and try to become more sustainable by reducing their packaging - so much unnecessary plastic and paper was used in my opinion...

Happy 2013!

Hello there!

I hope you had a wonderful time ringing in the new year. I spent New Years Eve and Day with friends, which was just perfect.

I decided to turn to sparkles and glitter to celebrate the arrival of the new year. A simple knit sweater with flecks of glitter thread, a pair of leather-type pants with silver reflects, and glitter eyeliner!

I didn't want to go over the top, and tried to dress for the weather was well.

Please enjoy this view I captured from my bedroom window yesterday morning. I thought the sky looked amazing!

P.S. I think this is an old/lame joke, going to say it anyways! "I feel like I've done nothing all year."
AHAHA! I got a kick out of it, I really do feel like that. I have been to some doctors appointments and was informed that I was selected as the sole person from my school to receive award for Academic Recognition! Also, I've done some shopping already, but I need to stop - I'm on a spending ban/no-buy.
