Having Fun in the Sun

Schools are out, pools are open and summer is rapidly approaching. The sun is high over head and the hot weather has already arrived. Finally, there is time to enjoy these long gorgeous summer days and it's the perfect time to take a trip to the beach or lay out by the pool.

It's important to keep in mind that while there are several health benefits we get from the sun, such as Vitamin D synthesis permitting an adequate diet we also must have caution! Make sure to apply a sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or greater to protect from UVA and UVB, this doesn't just apply to summer, but year round as well. Keep in mind that the highest amount of UV rays from the sun happen between 10am and 4pm. Additionally, sunglasses that block 100% of UV" rays or ones that say "UV absorption up to 400nm" are idea for optimal eye protection.

As a medical student, part of my longing for career in medicine stemmed from my interest in skin cancer. I am fairer in the skin spectrum so I have always had some caution in outdoor activities. I burn easily and have experienced a few painful sunburns in my life that I would never wish on anyone. I now take extra precautions to ensure my protection from the sun in any outdoor activity. I wear hats and sunglasses, I use sunscreen and I make sure to take a daily vitamin D supplement. Vitamin D has so many health benefits for us so it is essential we get an adequate amount daily. I usually live in a library with no windows, I have have to make sure I take my supplement daily.

Now that the summer is here and school is out I finally have the chance to enjoy the outdoors, safely.

Have fun this summer, but be safe!

Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley | Honeymoon Part 2

Honeymoon part deux:

Our honeymoon travels wouldn't be complete without a visit to our dear old friend Harry Potter! Universal Studio's had just opened a new Harry Potter attraction at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter featuring Diagon Alley. So with hotel and travel arrangements, Q and I made our way to Orlando, FL for all thing fantastic and wonderful.

The detail of the entire Wizarding World attraction is impressive in itself, including the linkage of the Hogwarts Express traveling between Hogsmead and Diagon alley. Each area individually offers something of pure delight and magic. To get the full experience of each area, I'd recommend visiting during the day as well as during the evening for a unique experience.

I absolutely loved visiting the different magical shops and thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment offered, from the shows to the rides and the environment created within Diagon Alley itself. Another worthy component of the experience was indulging in the variety of food and fares offered in the attraction area. These are some of the favorites of the many I tried... I think I gained about 5 lbs (seriously), though all of it went away after being at home for a week.
